PLEXIPHONES „Break in the Clouds”

Auf ihrem dritten Longplayer nach „News from the Colonies” (2012) und „Electric“ (2016) gehen PLEXIPHONES aus Mönchengladbach konsequent ihren musikalischen Weg weiter und definieren sich auch ein gutes Stück neu. Nach wie vor begeistern die sechs Musiker auf „Break in the Clouds“ mit frischer Spielfreude, reichhaltiger Instrumentierung und überziehen ihre Songs mit wunderschönen Melodien, ohne dabei jedoch zu dick aufzutragen.

Wurde auf dem Vorgänger „Electric“ noch ausgebuffter Power-Pop mit üppigen Arrangements und breiter Produktion zelebriert, so geht die Band auf den zehn neuen Songs zwar nicht weniger episch zu Werke, jedoch umrahmt in ein deutlich transparenteres Klangbild. Verantwortlich dafür zeichnet sich nicht zuletzt Hilton Theissen, der zusammen mit Bassist Kurt Schmidt das Album produziert hat und auch für das Mastering zuständig war.

Dabei offenbart die Band eine beeindruckende Bandbreite, die jedoch immer homogen bleibt und ganz klar die Handschrift erfahrener Musiker trägt, die genau wissen, wie zeitloser Alternative-Pop mit Charakter klingen muss. Songs wie der extrem coole Opener „Apocalypse“, das groovig-rockige „Madame Tussaud“ oder mystisch-poppige Nummern wie „Fail In Love“ fügen sich ebenso nahtlos in das Gesamtwerk ein wie der schleichend-melancholische Abschluss des Albums („My Language“), dessen rockig ausuferndes Finale in den Kontext des Album-Titels „Break In The Clouds“ nicht besser passen könnte. PLEXIPHONES beweisen, dass eigenständige, komplexe, aber immer nachvollziehbare, britisch geprägte Musik mit Wiedererkennungswert unglaublich viel Spaß machen kann.

Textlich drehen sich alle Titel um die emotionalen, zum Teil apokalyptischen Grenzerfahrungen, die ein Mensch im Laufe seiner ambivalentesten Lebensabschnitte machen kann: von Amor bis Armageddon, von Anti-Atomkraft bis Anti-Faltencremes. Immer auf der Suche nach sich selbst, nach dem idealen Counterpart und dem festen Glauben an das Gute, Aufrichtige, Wahre. „Break in the Clouds“ schafft musikalische Aufbruchstimmung und macht vor allem Lust, die Band live zu hören.

On “Break In The Coulds” the six musicians still know how to enthuse the audience with a fresh joy of playing music and an opulent orchestration coating their songs with wonderful melodies without laying it on too thick.

As the band celebrated savvy Power Pop with rich arrangements and wide production on the predecessor "Electric", now the band goes on the with ten new songs no less epic, but framed in a much more transparent sound. Responsible for this is last but not least Hilton Theissen, who produced the album together with bass-player Kurt Schmidt and was also responsible for the mastering.

The band reveals an impressive range, but it always remains homogeneous and clearly bears the signature of experienced musicians who know exactly how timeless alternative pop has to sound with character. Songs like the extremely cool opener "Apocalypse", the groovy-rocking "Madame Tussaud" or mystical-poppy numbers like "Fail In Love" are as seamlessly integrated into the complete work as the creeping-melancholic conclusion of the album ("My Language"). ), whose rocking sprawling finale in the context of the album title "Break In The Clouds" could not fit better. PLEXIPHONES prove that self-contained, complex, but always understandable, British-influenced music with recognizable value can be incredibly fun.
